George Hege Hamilton IV (July 19, 1937 – September 17, 2014) was an American country musician. He began performing in the late 1950s as a teen idol, switching to country music in the early 1960s. Hamilton was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, on July 19, 1937. While a 19-year-old student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Hamilton recorded "A Rose and a Baby Ruth" for a Chapel Hill record label, Colonial Records

The singer and guitarist, who began performing as a teenager in the 1950s, had suffered a major heart attack at the weekend. He was a regular visitor to Scotland, and in 2004 produced an album of songs called Hamilton's Other Country. In the 1990s, he made a foray into stage work, playing the narrator in a production of Pasty Cline The Musical for five years, including a run in London's West End. Hamilton is survived by his wife Tinky, two sons George V and Peyton and daughter Mary.

George Hamilton IV, the US country music star, has died aged 77. The singer, born in North Carolina, suffered a major heart attack at the weekend and died in Nashville, Tennessee. Although known as a country star, Hamilton’s most recent album, released in 2010, was a gospel collection featuring a host of guest. In 2004, he released an album of songs called Hamilton’s Other Country that paid tribute to Scotland.
